Centre for International Relations

Tribhuvan University

Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal

Message from Executive Director

Prof. Vishnu Prasad Pandey, PhD
Executive Director

In the quest to contribute to the internationalization of Tribhuvan University (TU), the Centre for International Relations (CIR) was established in April 1998, nearly four decades after the founding of TU. CIR aims to foster academic and research collaboration and cooperation between TU and institutions worldwide by promoting academic and research partnerships, student and faculty mobility, and sharing of knowledge, expertise, and technology.

As the oldest, premier, and largest university in Nepal—with over 450,000 students enrolled across more than 1,100 campuses and colleges nationwide—TU offers diverse academic and research programs spanning natural and social sciences, management, engineering, medicine, forestry, and agriculture/animal sciences. This positions TU as a unique platform for establishing partnerships in South Asia. Furthermore, TU is strengthening research collaborations in specific disciplines through its four university-level research centers (Research Centers at TU) and numerous centers under its five institutes and four faculties (for example, the Institute of Engineering hosts 15 research centers: Research Centers at IoE). Its strong regional ties and globally dispersed alumni network serve as valuable assets for prospective partners.

Currently, TU maintains institutional relations through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with over 225 institutions and universities worldwide. CIR receives inbound international students and faculty for short-, medium-, and long-term exchanges and facilitates outbound mobility for TU members to partner institutions. The university has extensive experience in cross-continental collaborations across multiple disciplines.

CIR is committed to strengthening existing partnerships, expanding them to new institutions and programs, and creating impact through technological, social, and economic transformation via fundamental and applied research, capacity building, and contributions to policy and practice. We are eager to explore all collaboration opportunities of mutual interest, including joint research and publishing, student and faculty exchanges, and advancements in both scientific knowledge and professional practice.
