The Faculty of Education (FOE) was established as the College of Education in 1956, prior to the founding of Tribhuvan University (TU) in 1959. It was created to institutionalize teacher education programs in Nepal and remains the largest faculty of TU in terms of student enrollment and affiliated campuses. With 26 constituent campuses and 544 affiliated colleges running teacher education programs nationwide, FOE maintains the country’s most extensive network in this field. Since its inception, FOE has contributed significantly by producing and supplying human resources for schools and the broader educational sector. It offers diverse programs across subject areas, including social studies, science, and information and communication technology (ICT) education.
FOE currently offers programs at multiple levels: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), Master of Social Studies Education (MSSEd), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in education. The bachelor’s and master’s programs integrate academic content with professional courses, though greater emphasis has traditionally been placed on theoretical foundations. In response to evolving demands, FOE is committed to enhancing program quality by strengthening pedagogical and professional competence through interactive teaching methods, instructional planning, material development, classroom management, and evaluation. Practice teaching and practicum components are being made more rigorous to ensure graduates possess strong practical skills.
The primary goal of FOE is to produce trained teachers, teacher educators, educational researchers, planners, managers, and curriculum designers required by the nation. The main objectives of FOE are to:
