Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) is an autonomous academic center of Tribhuvan University dedicated to education and research in the fields of Agriculture, Animal Sciences, and Veterinary Sciences.
The Institute began in 1957 as the School of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, offering training for Junior Technical Assistants (JTAs). In 1968, it was upgraded to the College of Agriculture and launched a two-year Intermediate of Agricultural Science (I.Sc.Ag.) program. In 1972, the college was elevated to the status of the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) under Tribhuvan University.
Initially, IAAS operated from Jagdamba Bhawan, Pulchowk, Kathmandu, before relocating to Rampur, Chitwan in 1974. Branch campuses were later established at Sundarbazar, Lamjung in 1975 and Paklihawa, Rupandehi in 1978.
The mission of IAAS is to promote agricultural science and train skilled manpower for agricultural development through teaching, research, and extension activities. The main objectives of the Institute are to:
- Design and implement academic programs that balance established and emerging needs of the agricultural sector.
- Introduce innovative methods of teaching, research, and technology dissemination.
- Promote research and studies addressing the needs and challenges faced by farmers in Nepal.
Over the years, IAAS has demonstrated academic excellence through the development of competent human resources. The Institute continuously adapts its programs to address evolving national priorities in agriculture. The recent restructuring of curricula focuses on practical skill development and enhancing agricultural productivity.
