Institute of Engineering

Institute of Engineering, one of the top and oldest technical institutes of Nepal, was founded in 1930. It is located in Pulchowk, Lalitpur. After the introduction of the New Education System Plan in 1972, the Institute of Engineering (IOE) was formed under Tribhuvan University, bringing both the Nepal Engineering Institute and the Technical Training Institute under its umbrella.

IOE began offering bachelor’s courses in engineering in 1978, master’s courses in 1996, doctoral programs in 2003, and post-doctoral programs in 2018. All bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs are conducted at Pulchowk Campus. Since 2018, a bachelor’s program in Aerospace Engineering has also been offered at Pulchowk Campus.

Master’s and bachelor’s programs are additionally run at Thapathali Campus, Purwanchal Campus, and Paschimanchal Campus. The bachelor’s program in Architecture is offered at Chitwan Engineering Campus. Today, IOE delivers its services through five constituent campuses and ten affiliated colleges.

The main objectives of the Institute of Engineering are to:

- Be a premier engineering education institution at par with world-class role models.

- Provide quality engineering education and research in frontier engineering areas relevant primarily to the nation.

The programs and courses offered at the institute have the flexibility to evolve and change in response to new requirements. They serve the dual purpose of building a solid foundation of knowledge and of enhancing confidence, creativity, and innovation in its students.

Institute of Engineering offers Ph.D. programs, master’s degrees (graduate courses), and bachelor’s degrees (undergraduate courses) in different engineering disciplines across various campuses and colleges. Currently, IOE runs post-doctoral programs, Ph.D. programs in various sectors, 34 master’s programs, and 12 bachelor’s degree programs wherever suitable.
