The Institute of Science and Technology (IoST) is one of the pioneer technical institutes under Tribhuvan University. IoST currently comprises 13 Central Departments, 1 school, 24 constituent campuses, and 89 affiliated campuses. The institute actively contributes to the nation in the fields of science, technology, and research. All Central Departments offer regular master’s and Ph.D. programs. Several campuses conduct both bachelor’s and master’s programs.
A significant number of students engage in scientific research projects within the Central Departments at the master’s level. The enrollment of Ph.D. scholars across various disciplines continues to grow annually. IoST prioritizes collaborative exchange programs to enhance the competence of faculty, researchers, and students. The institute maintains strong linkages and collaborations with government ministries, national and international organizations, and academic institutions to advance research activities.
IoST aims to elevate the quality of its departments through effective teaching and learning, robust research initiatives, and the pursuit of excellence. This includes establishing well-equipped laboratories and libraries, recruiting highly skilled personnel, and providing advisory services in science and technology in partnership with national and international agencies. The Tribhuvan University Executive Council has recently designated IoST as a center of excellence under the Dean’s leadership. A dedicated committee has been formed, and a five-year strategic plan has been developed to achieve this goal.
The main objectives of IoST are to:
- Provide sufficient infrastructure for research within IoST.
- Introduce new subjects in science and technology across departments and colleges.
- Produce high-skilled, knowledge-based manpower.
- Mobilize resources for research and development.
- Organize national and international seminars, conferences, and workshops.
- Conduct refresher courses in each subject to enhance faculty proficiency.
